School Trip: Tangier

In this writing I am goingo to say my experience of the school trip in Tangier. The trip was one month ago. The trip was very interesting.
In this day I learned a lot of things about the history of Tanger when Americans were there, specially the history of Paul Bowles.
Paul Frederic Bowles was an American expatriate composer, author, and translator. He became associated with Tangier, Morocco, where he settled in 1947 and lived for 52 years to the end of his life.

Following a cultured middle-class upbringing in New York City, during which he displayed a talent for music and writing, Bowles pursued his education at the University of Virginia before making several trips to Paris in the 1930s. He studied music with Aaron Copland, and in New York he wrote music for theatrical productions, as well as other compositions. He achieved critical and popular success with his first novel The Sheltering Sky (1949), set in what was known as French North Africa, which he had visited in 1931.

In 1947 Bowles settled in Tangier, Morocco, and his wife Jane Bowles followed in 1948. Except for winters spent in Sri Lanka (then known as Ceylon) during the early 1950s, Tangier was Bowles' home for the remainder of his life. He came to symbolize American expatriates in the city.

Paul Bowles died in 1999 at the age of 88. His ashes are buried near family graves in Lakemont Cemetery in upstate New York.

But in Tangier I saw another things, for example I saw  the TALIM ( Tangier American Legation Institute for Moroccan Studies), in this place one guy explained about the history of Tangier in the 50’s, when it was a international place.

There were a lot of pictures about the people who lived in this time, well only the rich people and the famous people.
Next the clash and I saw the Paul Bowles’s museum in this place we listened a small talk about the life of this person and where he worked. The place was very interesting with a lot of things to write and his books.

Then we went in The “Continental Hotel”, a luxury hotel in Tangier, in this hotel the famous people were staying there. It was very interesting, the ambience of the hotel was perfect because it represented clearly as society was 40’s and 50’s.

In this hotel there were props about the last century, with chair, drinks or picture. But the bar was very expensive.

Another site that we went is a kind of museum of events in the history of Tangier, like a battle of foreign people vs the people who lived here, in lead figures.

This battle represents the sadness of imminent defeat or the fight to protect their country. Other things that I could see in this museum is a lot of posters and picture like this:

Finally in this school trip, I learned one thing, Tangier was a international placeand it can be a special place to the history of last century, and I want to go back.

Cry Freedom
-Movie Review
The film begins with the stories of Donald Woods, editor of the East London (South Africa) Daily Dispatch, and Steve Biko, a young black leader who has founded a school and a clinic for his people and continues to hold out hope that blacks and whites can work together to change South Africa. In the more naive days of the 1960s and 1970s, his politics are seen as "black supremecy," and Woods writes sanctimonious editorials describing Biko as a black racist. Through an emissary, Biko arranges to meet Woods. Eventually the two men become friends, and Woods sees black life in South Africa at first hand, something few white South Africans have done.

But in the movie there is a reflexion When I saw the movie, I really got touched by the story. This movie is showing us what happened in this country between the 1977 and 1979. When you realice that the movie is a true story, you get confuse and mind changed because this people were suffering just because they have a different colour. I think that the importance of those kind of movies is to learn about our mistakes. If we don’t change after making them, we are not evolving as humans. That means that things, that are happening in countries like Palestine or Afganistan, should not be happening now. In my opinion, the real story told in this movie should be an example for nowadays and the future.

1-In which years does the story take place?

In this movie the story take place between the years 1977 and 1979.

2- Which are the names of the cities? Can you find them on a map?

The cities are: Bloemfontein, Port Elizabeth, Pretoria, Cape town, and Lesotho.

3- Give short descriptions about the cities and places. Add some photographs.

Bloemfontein: This city has only white people, and because of this, they got more tecnhology and more high quality life.
Port Elizabeth: This city is compose just by black people. It is a very poor zone where we can find ruin places to live, a lot of thieves, and to many sick people.
Cape Town: It is the capital of Sudafrica, and the most high level city to live. The people who live here has black people as servers in theirs big houses and mansions. People inside of the city didn’t know anything about the confict in the country.
Lesotho: The city is a black people neighborhood, but it is very confortable. Even was forbidden, people could find alcohol. This city is the most open minded for the black people.
Petoria: It is the place where our main chacarter passed his holidays with his family. In the city, we are not finding to many people because it is a very rich people place.

4- What do you think is the importance of the real story told in this film?

Writing

My zodiac.

In the zodiac’s signs, I am scorpio. It means that I was born in 15 of november.

The people who are scorpio. They are enigmatic and appealing. They have a steely exterior but possess much sensitivity.  They need emotional space. They are secretive and keep everyone at a distance. They prefer the stability of home and hearth.  They can be demanding in their family relationships.

I disagree with this information of my zodiac’s signs, because I am not a person that I prefer the stability at home, because I love the adventure around the world.

I disagree with this of the zodiac, because all of that is a lie to cheat people.

Writing: Norway

In this writing I am talking about a fantastic country that I want to go, this country is

Norway.

In first I am going to say where is it?, His population, area and history.

Norway is a Scandinavian unitary constitutional monarchy whose territory comprises

the western portion of the Scandinavian Peninsula, Jan Mayen, the Arctic archipelago of

Svalbard, and the sub-Antarctic Bouvet Island. His capital is Oslo and his language is the

Norwegian and Sami.

Norway’s population is 5,109,059 people this year, and his area is 385,252 square

kilometres.

The favorite history of Norway is the vinking’s history. The vinking’s era starts in the 9th

century, Norway was divided in several kingdoms and they were confronted At the end of

the 9th century Harald Fairhair gained control of the western coast and he called himself

king of Norway but he really only ruled part of it. He was followed by Eric Bloodaxe (900-

935). The next king of Norway was Haakon I (935-960). He attempted to convert Norway

to Christianity but he was not successful.

Norwegian society was divided into 3 classes. At the bottom were the thralls or slaves.

Being a slave was, no doubt, horrid as they were made to do the hardest and most

unpleasant work. Above the thralls were the freemen. A freeman could be quite wealthy or

he could be very poor depending on how much land he owned. Above them were the nobles

or jarls.

And finally Norway was converted to Christianity in the 11th century. In 995 Olav

Tryggvesson made himself king of Norway.

And now I am talking to the town in the actually.

The first thing that you see in the country is the amount of vegetation and a lot of animals, if

you go to Norway you will have fantastic experience.

Something that you can do in Norway is for example go hiking, snorkel, visit the Norway’s

fjords, go to museums and a lot of things more.

The best museums of Norway are “viking ship museum”, “Fram museum”, the Oslo opera

house and the natural history museum at the university of Norway.

Norway is very famous for its geographic accidents these are some of all: Lofoten,

Preikestolen, Floyen, Briksdalsbreen, Nigardsbreen and Gaustatoppen.

The experience that you will have is a amazing experience for all that this great country has

and of course your your own experience.
