The Tangier's
American Legation Museum is an amazing cultural center Museum, conference center and
library in the heart of the old medina in Tangier . It is the house in the
only historic landmark of the Untied States located abroad. You could easily
spend a couple of hours in it . It's one of the most enjoyable attractions in
the city. But it is more than that. It also gives many insights into the local
history, and the literary community like Paule Bowles , the most famous writer
and composer in the 20th century .
We our
adventure started in the museum by discovering the room dedicated to Paule Bowles
who remains as one of the leading
composers and literary figures of his generation who honored Morocco, and its
people and culture with great passion and respect. It was born in 1910 in USA, and lived for 52 years in Tanger .
The « PAUL
BOWLES WING » was established in 2010 , the room displays items
related to the life of the writer : books, photographs, letters, music
scores, suitcases and other items
telling about the half century life in tanger .
Each item is
telling a story about the writer who adored Tanger and the Moroccan culture. In
one of the corners you found a portrait
by artist Claudio Bravo. In addition of galleries of photographs
showing him in early years , with
his, musical friends , literary friends and late years . Their is one box
containing 18 black and white photographs. Location information is written on
the backs of most photographs. The photographs include scenes of performers at
Essaouira, Amizmiz, Taza, and Segangan, and several shots of houses and
casbahs.
The literacy irritage
is present in the wing , Through his books, Bowles created a unique vision of
Morocco in his books he shows the to USA the real Morocco . Travels , The
sheltering sky , a life , let it come down, are
some of the books he wrote .
Music was also present in the rich artistic life of
Bowles. He composed : opera , ballet , Theater music , orchestral , piano
, and songs seeting texte in English , spanish and french .
The Paul Bowles Moroccan Music Collection is consists
of audio recordings, photographs, and accompanying documentation that focus
primarily on one recording project. Dance often was integral to the music
events; as Bowles pointed out, usually "music and dance are one thing"
to the peoples of Morocco, especially the Berber tribes.
Many suitcasses bowles had. It’s tell how this man
travelled.
Paule Bowles ocasionally would visit his favorite Coffee
Colon. We had the opportunity to enjoy the place and have a drink. The Coffee Colon
is a famouse place in Tanger medina it is populare with famouse icones in literary and culture.
The American legation museum is Worth a visit it provides great insight to America's history with morocco. It
is like a piece of America in tangier. Lots of interesting exhibits regarding
the history of Tangier as an international city and the relationship with
America. Also a good exhibition on the works of Paul Bowles.
